muwav is what happens when a software developer who owns their music got tired of players that treat a library like a spreadsheet — and streaming services that treat listening like a data source.
The short story
muwav was built by one person, in Vermont, over more than 1000 hours of evenings and weekends. No venture capital. No growth targets. No roadmap committee. Just the stubborn conviction that music you actually own deserves a player designed around how you actually listen.
That independence isn’t a bootstrapping phase to be grown out of. It’s the point. muwav answers to the people who use it, and to no one else.
Why the ocean
Most players hand you a database: rows, columns, a search box, good luck. muwav starts from a different picture — your music as water you step into. A Wave for work, a Wave for the commute, a Wave for drifting off. You don’t manage a queue; you pick a current and let it carry you.
The beach on the home page isn’t decoration. It’s the design document.
Cedar Syntax LLC
Cedar Syntax LLC is the Vermont company behind muwav. “Company” is doing generous work in that sentence — it’s a legal wrapper around one person, a build machine, and an unreasonable amount of care about audio playback.
The ethos
No ads, no analytics, no subscriptions required, no lock-in. Those aren’t marketing lines; they’re written commitments, kept publicly and verifiably on the trust page.
